Requirements and Registration

To join the Young Marines the only requirement is that the interested individual is between the ages of 8 and 18 (or the completion of high school). The recruit can be male or female and must have a good standing in school and at home.

This does not mean you have to have the "perfect child". Many parents allow their child to join the program for direction, discipline and to help develop self-confidence and leadership. That is what this program is all about, helping good kids to become our future leaders.

Young Marines is the official youth program of the United States Marine Corps; however, it is NOT a recruiting tool. The Young Marines program is the Marine Corps contribution to the drug demand reduction effort by requiring that all Young Marine units conduct quarterly drug demand reduction classes to educate our youth to the dangers of drugs.

Registration

At the parent orientation meetings (June 16 and June 20 @ 1900) registration packets will be available to interested parents and you will have the opportunity to stay after the meeting and fill out the packet, or take it home, fill it out and bring it back on one of the scheduled registration dates (June 20 or June 30 @ 1900). To help make the process a little easier, we have list below some items/information that will be required. This includes:

Social Security Number All recruits must provide a social security number in order to be registered. This is the means by which National keeps track of all Young Marines.
Proof of Recent Physical Due to the physical nature of this program, all recruits must have a recent physical in order to register.
Copy of Health
Insurance Card
This is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended that parents provide a copy of their insurance card in case their Young Marine is injured on a trip.

Registration Fee

The initial registration fee for a new recruit is approximately $275. We hope that it will not increase, but if uniforms or other equipment prices increase we may also have to increase the registration fee to cover the cost. There are a limited number of scholarships available for those who need financial assistance (see box for further information). Our main goal is to see to it that no children are excluded from the program, if at all possible.

Payments are non-refundable once the gear is ordered. The registration fee covers the following items:

  • Canteen Belt
  • Canteen Cover
  • Canteen
  • Woodland Camouflage Duffle Bag
  • Nametapes
  • Young Marines tape and patches
  • DCYM Dog Tags
  • National Registration Fee

Young Marines Obligation

"From this day forward, I sincerely promise I will set an example for all other youth to follow and I shall never do anything that would bring disgrace or dishonor upon my God, my country and it's flag, my parents, myself, or the Young Marines. These I will honor and respect in a manner that will reflect credit upon them and myself."

Semper Fidelis

Young Marine Creed

  1. Obey my parents and all others in charge of me whether young or old.

  2. Keep myself neat at all times without other people telling me to.

  3. Keep myself clean in mind by attending the church of my faith.

  4. Keep my mind alert to learn in school, at home or at play.

  5. Remember having self-discipline will enable me to control my body and mind in case of an emergency.
