DCYM Unit Awards

The Douglas County Young Marines have been honored to receive a number of awards in the unit's short existence. We are proud of the recognition that the unit has received from the local to national level. It is a testimony to the dedication of our staff, our parents, and the Young Marines.

What are the Streamers?

Streamers are a symbol of pride within a Young Marines unit, because they are received when an unit award is received. As you can see in the picture to the left, they are prominently displayed on the unit colors.


The Douglas County Young Marines have received 1) National Unit of the Year, 2) Distiguished Unit Citation, 3) Marine Corps League Commendation, 4) Regimental Commendation, 5) Organized Unit Trip, 6) Division Commendation, and 7) Drug Demand - National Level for being awarded the Department of Defense's Fulcrum Shield Award.

Young Marines Facts


There are over 300 Young Marine units nationwide with approximately 10,000 Young Marines and 4,000 registered adult staff members.

Division 4, our division, is the largest of all six divisions and consists of approximately 85 units in 6 states.


Young Marines Obligation

"From this day forward, I sincerely promise I will set an example for all other youth to follow and I shall never do anything that would bring disgrace or dishonor upon my God, my country and it's flag, my parents, myself, or the Young Marines. These I will honor and respect in a manner that will reflect credit upon them and myself."

Young Marine Creed

  1. Obey my parents and all others in charge of me whether young or old.

  2. Keep myself neat at all times without other people telling me to.

  3. Keep myself clean in mind by attending the church of my faith.

  4. Keep my mind alert to learn in school, at home or at play.

  5. Remember having self-discipline will enable me to control my body and mind in case of an emergency.
