This year, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) celebrated the 4th of July on Saturday, July 3rd and the Young Marines were there to perform the opening ceremony with a military flag detail and color guard.
This is the 5th year the unit has presented colors for the Sky Sox 4th of July celebration, and it is an honor to be able to take a part in this event.
The unit started with a tailgate party, hosted by the Young Marine parents, followed by the colors presentation, a great game of baseball, and ended with a fantastic fireworks show. The only thing that would have made this a better event is a Sky Sox win. They played a great game, but lost to the Salt Lake Bees, 9 - 8.

On Saturday, June 26,2010, MSgt Jorge Charry and SSgt Dan Jolley of the Colorado National Guard visited the unit to conduct a Drug Demand Reduction Class (DDR).
Their presentation was very informative and they helped to make it more "interactive" by conducting a game of Jeopardy where all the categories tested their knowledge of drugs and their effect on the body.
It was an outstanding presentation and it kept the Young Marines interested and involved. We would like to thank MSgt Charry and SSgt Jolley for their dedication in helping to inform not just our Young Marines, but anyone who asks for their assistance, on the danger of drugs.

It was cold and wet, but that didn't stop our "hard core" dedicated Young Marines from participating in this year's Parker Days parade. It started with light drizzle during the staging for the parade and turned to a steady rain by the start of the parade.
By the end of the parade all our Young Marines and staff were "soaked to the bone", but that didn't dampen their spirits. They looked sharp during the parade and they made us all proud.
A special thanks to our Young Marine parents, many of whom were as wet as the Young Marines. It is the dedication of our staff, parents and Young Marines that make this an outstanding unit.
Thank you to the parents who took photos of the parade. To view the photos, click here or visit the Photos page.
The Young Marines participated in the Elizabeth Stampede Parade on Saturday, June 5th. This has been an annual event for the unit since 2005. To view photos of the event, go to the Photos page.

I'd like to welcome you to the official website of the Douglas
County Young Marines. The Young Marines is a youth program for boys
and girls, ages 8 through the completion of high school.
The program focuses on character building, discipline, leadership and promotes a healthy drug-free lifestyle. All interested individuals must complete 10 weeks (every Saturday) of recruit training in order to earn the title "Young Marine". I am sure you will find this website very informative and hopefully entertaining. If you wish to find a unit in your area, click on the Locator tab above. You do not have to live in Douglas County to become a member of our unit. If you would like to find out more about becoming a member or to be added to the interest list for the next recruit class, view the About Us|Recruit Training page and fill out the interest form.
